First Of Its Kind Summer Program For European Yaldei HaShluchim Announces Head Staff

MyShliach Yeshivas Kayitz UK, the Groundbreaking Summer Program for European Shluchim, announces its head staff for its inaugural summer.

For most Lubavitch children living in the US, the start of Tammuz (late June/early July) brings the onset of summer vacation and the beginning of summer camps. Most schools close their doors within a short time of one another, allowing their students to experience and partake in the vast network of Chabad summer camps.

In Europe however, the school year tends to conclude a month later – in the month of Av (late July/early August). While there is an extensive network of summer camps that cater to the European school-year cycle, some young Shluchim have until now been unable to join and participate in these camps.

The young European Shluchim who study online generally follow the American school year schedule, creating a situation where they complete school an entire month earlier than the rest of the European Schools. The isolation and scheduling can create a sense of loneliness and boredom, as these young Shluchim tend to live very far away from friends and family with whom they can interact and socialize.

Enter MyShliach Yeshivas Kayitz UK. The camp is the very first of its kind and will launch this summer. Spearheaded by Rabbi Yossi and Rivky Cheruff, Shluchim in Birmingham, UK; Rabbi Eli and Freidy Brackman Shluchim in Oxford, UK, the Yeshivas Kayitz promises to be an opportunity for young Shluchim to learn and grow spiritually and emotionally. Created to fill this unique need for the English-speaking European Shluchim and directed by the said Shluchim in collaboration with MyShliach at Merkos 302, it will feature an eclectic mix of learning and playing, entertainment and growth, fun, and connection.

“This Yeshiva Kayitz will be an incredible opportunity for young Shluchim who often find themselves far away from friends and Chassidishe experiences,” says Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch. “This informal learning experience will have a ripple effect, causing these young Shluchim to return home rejuvenated, with an increased fervor for learning and assisting their parents in their respective Shlichus.”

The camp will take place on the coast of Pembrokeshire, Wales, one of the most scenic and beautiful coastlines in the United Kingdom. It will cater to boys between the ages of 11 and 13. The camp will feature a strong structure and curriculum of learning, outdoor activities, and outings. There will be an emphasis on learning practical halacha, Gemara, and Chassidus. Two acres of land and woodland form the grounds of this beautiful campsite, and the vast array of amenities includes an indoor heated pool and game room. Additionally, the directors have hand-picked experienced and caring staff to create an incredible Chassidishe atmosphere.

“Our goal is for the young Shluchim to be engaged and to grow,” says Rabbi Zalmen Weingarten, program director of MyShliach Yeshivas Kayitz UK. “They will be able to connect with like-minded peers and to experience a summer as the Rebbe envisioned- one infuses Yiddishkeit and Chassidishkeit into the most mundane parts of the campers’ lives- the way they eat, sleep and go about their daily routine.”
